HARISH JOHARI

Harish Johari (1934-1999) was a distinguished North Indian author, tantric scholar, poet, musician, composer, artist, and gemologist who held degrees in philosophy and literature and made it his life's work to introduce the spirituality of his homeland to the West. He authored many books on Tantra, Yoga, Chakras, Ayurveda, Gemology, Numerology, etc... He also produced many meditative audio-recordings.

All credit for the Rasas book is due to Sri Harish Johari, who gave the "Rasa Siddhanta" lecture series that forms the principal basis of the book "The Yoga of the Nine Emotions". The Rasas lectures by Harish Johari took place in 1997 in Belgium and were spread out over a period of nine days, for a total of about twenty hours of actual lectures.

As Harish Johari left his body in August 1999 without having written a book on the Rasas, the essences of our emotions, he left me with a great challenge and opportunity. The writing of this book has offered me more in terms of personal growth than the material could ever have given me in any other way. I can only feel very grateful to him.

Since receiving the Rasas teaching, I have been doing Rasa Sadhana and the past few years this resulted in a rather permanent fasting from the disagreeable Rasas Anger, Fear, Sadness and Disgust. It has changed me in a very profound way. Never have I felt more in charge of myself and of my life. While it did not make me an enlightened being or someone saintly like that, a happy being I have become, yes.

I was born 8 march 1963 in Belgium and studied philosophy, communication sciences, and environmental engineering. Since 1986 I have worked on the development of healthy and environmentally sound products. I became a student of Harish Johari in 1983 and organized the Rasa Sadhana workshop by Harish Johari in 1997. I am also one of the founding members of Sanatan Society, a networking organization of family and students of Harish Johari.
